What is Espresso Powder?

As time goes by, people want to waste less and less and thus preserve the environment. One of the ways you can do this is to “recycle” used coffee grounds. Most people think that espresso powders can only be used to make delicious espresso, but this isn’t true. There are many other “supplementary” uses of used coffee powder.

This type of coffee powder, known as instant espresso powder, is rarely used these days, as, unfortunately, this powder makes for a pretty weak cup of everyone’s favorite caffeine drink. However, the so-called espresso powder can be used for all sorts of purposes. This thing is very useful in the home kitchen and it is usually made of dark Italian roast.

How is Espresso Kitchen Powder Made?

Making this type of espresso powder is pretty straightforward- you begin as you normally would- by brewing regular espresso. After you’ve finished, don’t throw away the brewed grounds. Simply dry them up, after which you should crush the dry coffee mass and eventually grind it a bit more.

What you want to get is very fine coffee powder. Needless to say, considering that these grounds already passed through the brewing process, making coffee from this kind of espresso powder is perhaps not a good idea, at least if you like a strong cup of coffee.

If you are the do-it-yourself type of person, you don’t even have to search for the best espresso powder brand! You can simply follow the procedure given earlier and get a perfectly fine baking coffee powder.

What is the average price of espresso powder? Prices go from 4$ to 15$ per powder, and most cost about 8 or 9 bucks, for a small can or bottle of this product.

This type of powder has many uses, many you wouldn’t believe.

Some people may even like the coffee made from this type of powder, but it isn’t generally used for coffee-brewing. Other people like to add the espresso powder to their cake recipe which would probably be one of its most common purposes. Another common purpose is food seasoning, decoration of plates, and even steak seasoning.

Who makes the best espresso powder? In our opinion, Medaglia D’Oro is by far the best producer of this kitchen-use coffee powder.

Espresso Powder Buyer’s Guide

First of all, we’d like to answer this simple question: what do I need espresso powder for? We’ll first go through some more conventional uses of this product (mostly in the kitchen) and then just briefly mention other, less conventional uses of espresso powder.

Steaks

Meat can be enriched by coffee colorful taste, and add a creamy texture on the top after a heating and grilling process.

Before you go on to cook your steak, you might as well add a bit of espresso powder to it! Every chef will tell you that this derivate of coffee adds a whole new palette of flavors to the meat, that you’ll get addicted to it once you try it!

Thanks to this little maneuver, the meat will have a much richer taste, with a kind of a smoky aftertaste. Some people think that espresso powder goes nicely with cayenne spice.

Finally, there’s the aesthetic part- your steaks will look much better thanks to the added coffee, it will look darker.

Chocolate

Let’s be honest here, chocolate and espresso powder go hand in hand- after you tried this amazing blend, you would ask yourself how you lived without it before. Real chocolate has that nice, bitter flavor, and espresso powder will enhance this bitterness.

Chilies, Stews, and Other Sauces

With sauces, braises, broths, and chilies, you want to be careful about the amount of espresso powder you’re adding to the mix- the rule of thumb is, it’s better to put too little than too much. Generally speaking, you don’t want your chilies to have that characteristic coffee taste- you simply want to add a bit of mystery, something to+ spark your palates

After a little talk about its use, purpose, and most important facts about making, we can move on to the most important part and that is answering the question: What powder is the best one for me?

Now we will talk about each brand and their most important characteristics.
